“The power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants without hindrance or restraint.” That is the definition of freedom. Keeping that in mind, do you think you are free? Pro-gun groups have said from the beginning that illegal registration of guns would lead to confiscation and Connecticut is proving that they were right. Now New York is following in close pursuit. What I don’t understand is, if they know who to send the registration form to already, then why do they need to register them? The state obviously has an idea of who has them, otherwise they would not be sending the forms out to the gun owners.
People in New York may be waking up, or at least beginning to, to the fact that their freedom has been hindered. If you think the Second Amendment only applied to muskets, then you have either failed to read the words, failed to read the intent of the word, or are just looking for a ’cause’ to feel like you stand for something. Now, the people are waking up, slowly, but it is still happening. It is not the governments job to limit or tell us what our freedoms are based on their personal opinions and agendas.
One question though, if gun control really worked, then why are the top three cities with the strictest gun control laws also the leading cities in gun related violence? Simple. Every single law that has been passed only affects those that would follow the law. Criminals, by definition, tend not to care too much about the law. Gun control only creates victims, and turns otherwise law-abiding citizens into criminals while allow criminal to operate with near impunity. When no one can reasonably defend themselves or their family, then criminals are emboldened. Chicago is proof of that.
Hopefully the article linked to below is a sign that people are fed up with illegal acts performed by those that attempt to pervert the laws.
